Center for Transplantation Science Resources
Microsurgery
The microsurgery area is located in the Liechtag Biomedical Research Building on the UC San Diego campus within the LBR Vivarium. The facility consists of one microsurgical suite that is adjacent to the small animal housing suites to allow for ease of transport and peri-operative care. Equipment includes a fully automated Leica M205A stereo microscope with IC-90 camera. A Kent Scientific far-infrared warming pad is utilized for recipients whose surgery lasts >1 hour. The surgical space also contains a post-surgical / anesthetic recovery area, with a Gaymar Stryker T/Pump attached to a warming blanket provided as the animals recover in the post-operative setting. A Ritter M11 Ultraclave Automatic Sterilizer is also available for instrument sterilization. There is also a separate area designed for animal prep, drug delivery, and tissue sampling.
Center for Transplantation Science Biorepository and Tissue Lab
The Center for Transplantation Science has approximately 240 sq ft of dedicated space at the UC San Diego Center for Advanced Laboratory Medicine, a state-of-the art facility supporting clinical laboratory diagnostics and translational research. This space includes a dedicated procedure room with a BSL2+ laminar flow hood, refrigerated centrifuges, automated cell counter, and standard equipment for sample processing. The space is also equipped with temperature monitored refrigerators, -80oC freezer, and liquid nitrogen storage capabilities.
The CTS Tissue Lab is located adjacent to the clinical UCSD Immunogenetics and Transplantation Laboratory (ITL) which provides clinical diagnostic testing to support hematopoietic stem cell and solid organ transplantation, including HLA genotyping by next-generation DNA sequencing, KIR genotyping, ABO glycosyltransferase genotyping, anti-HLA antibody testing, cellular crossmatch testing by flow cytometry, and chimerism analysis. CLIA-certified testing in the ITL is available fee-for-service.
Center for Transplantation Science Biobanking
The Center for Transplantation supports comprehensive biobanking for studies in organ transplantation including peripheral blood and tissue (UCSD HRPP approval #810360). Available services include patient consenting and enrollment, sample collection, sample processing, and sample storage.
