We are located at the Sanford Consortium for Regenerative Medicine.
Please contact Dr. Horii (mhorii@health.ucsd.edu) if you are interested in the lab.
Dr. Mariko Horii received her M.D. degrees from Kagawa University School of Medicine (Kagawa, Japan). Subsequently, she did her residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. Luke's International Hospital (Tokyo, Japan), where she was chief resident in her final year of her training. Following the clinical training, she joined Dr. Parast's lab at UC San Diego as a postdoc where she was trained in stem cell research.
She has been funded by California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) training grant and National Institutes of Health (NIH)/National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) K99/R00. She started her independent research program at UC San Diego in 2020.
Mr. Tony Bui has been working with Dr. Horii since 2016, when he was an undergraduate student at San Diego State University. He became a lab manager in 2020. He has extensive training in reprogramming, human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC) culture, derivation of trophoblast stem cells using hPSC, immunostaining (including the use of imageJ), and RNA.
He also enjoys mentoring students in the lab, helping them gain experience in everything from the basic molecular techniques to advanced hPSC cell culture.
