Ophthalmic Pathology

About the Service

The Ophthalmic Pathology service at UC San Diego provides expert assessment of cytologic and surgical specimens from the eye, orbit, and surrounding tissues to diagnose neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases of this region. Techniques available at UCSD and used by our ophthalmic pathologists to provide comprehensive diagnoses include routine histology or cytology, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and molecular testing. Additional services include rapid on-site evaluation for assessment of ocular fine-needle aspiration specimens.

We are available for consultation on all aspects of ophthalmic pathology.
